Why I sought CBT Counselling
I had previously received counselling which had not been helping me and instead seemed to confuse me and make me feel sad.
Although I believed in talking therapy, just getting things off my chest - the 'a problem shared is a problem solved' approach - was not what I needed for myself at that time.
I realised that I needed a different approach.
At the assessment meeting stage I was sceptical that any talking treatment could help me, given that I had been devastated by a significant experience of betrayal.
However, after just four sessions Dr. Davies was able to help me to start getting over 'the mental wall' that was hindering me. I believed she was onto something that could work.
Now I had to trust her and try it.
My thinking processes slowly began to alter. Through sessions with Dr. Davies I began to understand how my thoughts lead to the emotional pain,
and then onto behaviours that created more pain.
I am now able to use different thoughts and behaviours, which have become my tool kit, assiting me to operate differently. I am now addressing my future and working on aspiration behaviours.
I am not engaged in any ongoing destructive behaviours and am living in the now - and enjoying it!
Dr. Davies has a very open, professional manner and fosters a collaborative problem solving environment. The CBT process itself is clear, transparent and active. Dr. Davies's communication style, patience and accuracy of pitch have enabled me to get the most out of this approach.
